Grandparent-less

Grandparents-less

Had only one set,

Was their favourite pet,

Forty years they were the tradition’s baseline,

Now there is an emptiness unkind.

A lap that brought out warm giggles,

The hand to hold in so many zoo trips,

A stoic figure at the gate as sky begins to twinkle,

The eye that believed in you, even if you stumbled.

A pious man with a scientific temperament,

A caring man with strict management,

A quiet person follows through his intentions,

A self-made man who brought about clothing innovation.

An independent lady, who finished school in secrecy,

A fierce mother who made sick kid get normalcy,

A methodical woman who saved to buy a home,

An organized being who took care of many under a single dome.

The voice who taught me music and melody,

The hand that recreated many a divine impression,

The creator of sweets n’ snacks numbering infinity,

The person with quite a few friendly connections.

As a ninety-year-old love story come to an end,

I can only rethink the time spent,

While I hope their watchful eye keeps all ill wills at bay,

Making me feel a little less, grandparent-less, every day.

  1. What a natural way of expressing the love & affection to the grand parents who are not here to appreciate the feeling of their grand daughter.Very aptly narrated by you. I fully give my appreciation to the blog. Dad

  3. A poignant poem . Bringing back the qualities of your granddad and grand mom to life.I can connect with those qualities as they are my aunt and uncle too.
I have had the good fortune of being with my grandmothers only, as both my granddads had passed away before I was born. Your poem makes me recall their love. You were blessed with their company for a long while as they both loved to be in their nineties . They will still continue to bless and guide you from their divine abode . God bless you
