A Birthday Gift

A Birthday Gift

What would be a perfect gift?

A milestone to remember,

As one walks into another year,

Something that would give mood a lift,

Maybe small things in a hamper,

Anything that would dry a tear.

Not everyone need to remember my special day,

Someone who has the key to my happiness,

The few persons for whom you matter,

Only close relative’s wishes wold fill one with sun-ray,

A few dear friends could enhance the madness,

Kids of course colour the platter.

Don’t want too many treats,

Neither looking for a hidden surprise,

Dreaming of glorious pleasantry,

Probably wouldn’t mind trip to a lovely retreat,

Nothing like a super party for mental highs,

No harm in pretty fantasies.

Crawling back to reality,

Staring away from notional senses,

Kicking off the pout and fuss,

Wishing for a day without any profanity,

Surrounded by love and not morose faces,

All one clamour for is a heartfelt hug and kisses.

Company

Company

Would you like a cup of tea?

Would you sit by me?

Let conversation flow,

Let the time and light trod slow.

Would you come and talk to me?

I promise I charge no fee,

A simple chat about the weather perhaps,

Or a stroll down the time relapse.

I asked many but no one came,

Each have an excuse sounding lame,

Some had work piles to high sky,

Others had a party invite to fly.

I gazed at the tables’ end,

To see the newspaper bend,

Behind it was my loving band,

Who had a castle in another land!

Took milk and cookies in a tray,

Hoping for chat with the kids in sun’s ray,

Milk and cookies vanished,

But conversation got banished.

Took the fresh baked cake to the neighbour,

But there too the talking ship did not harbour,

I looked around for someone sound,

A pleasant face that would not hound.

Gone are the days of leisure afternoon tea,

Where cakes and biscuits meet glee,

People unwind over topics of the world,

Time and immediate task put on hold.

Deep in my thoughts,

I return to my green pots,

At least they listen,

For tee- a-tee is a good growth medicine.

Now I sit by my green friends,

That answer my queries with a low bend,

I have a hot cup of brew,

While the feathered friends flew.

I Am A Flower

I Am A Flower

In the mist of silence, I bloom.

Gaze at the nature's wonder, for I cam diminish gloom,

As a gist of happiness, I fill you with introspection,

Plenty of ideas, But I filter out the best conviction,

See the morning dew fall, as if clears the deep in,

Each day is a epoch, when you shine form within.

Connect ot Past

Connect to Past

Called a friend from my past,
Half expecting her to have forgotten,
Thought the conversation would not last,
But her greetings left me smitten.

Found that the favourite teacher left institution,
Mutual friend is going solo with workshops,
Little girls have started education,
Young girls are walking into internships.

Reminded of the secure bus rides,
Time passed with many moons and tides,
Remembered the happy wishes on birthday,
Teacher and student sharing the special day.

Parcel of Goodies

Parcel of Goodies

Your Parcel of goodies came by,

Each one of the items saying hello, hi,

The cotton threads bundled together,

Slightly unsure of the new weather,

The dress sat right royal in the centre,

Demanding attention from every vendor,

The bangles hid inside the dress,

Unaware, unconcerned of the outside mess,

Then finally the bracelet broke out,

The smiling face reminding us not to pout,

The goodies brought cheer to everyone’s face,

A wow and yippee joined the adoration race.

Worries

Worries

What is worrying you so much?

What bothers you that you flinch?

Close your eyes don’t get unnerved,

Break all ties to what you observed,

The Water logged streets are here to stay,

The Dusty air will not blow away,

Loud Music and Horns will blare,

Deafening crackers will bust with glare.

People will be intolerant,

A few will choose to be ignorant,

A bunch of humans will be arrogant,

Looking down at whose who are patient.

Look out for a reason to smile,

Don’t lock up your manners in a file,

Keep the humour in your memory,

Erase all events that are anti.

Lean towards bright colours,

Spread fragrance like flowers,

Dance to a happy tune,

Even if you look like a toon.

I am Bored!!

I am Bored!!

I am bored said the young one,

Bored of solving the same fractions,

Tired of the karate actions,

Enough of Indian history,

Too much of scientific mystery.

I am bored said the teenage son,

Bored of rice curd and lentil,

Tired of social that drives me mental,

Enough of words from our national language,

Too much trouble of, what to plan and manage.

I am bored said the middle aged man,

Bored of being forever under the weather,

Tired of exerting strenuous mental labour,

Enough of working for another employer,

Time is right to become a go – getter.

Words of a home – maker differ,

Need to plan the day for the minor,

Engrossed in jotting some points for teenager,

Ensure adequate subsistence for the brood,

Time lapses taking care of the household,

Where can she afford to say ‘I am Bored!!.

Events Unexpected

Events Unexpected

I stare at the sky,
Waiting for a reply.

I gaze at the doctor,
As she explains the vector.

A whirlwind of thoughts,
All swirling me into a vortex.

Seeking s healer for a rash,
Thought why not a prime check-up in a dash.

Never realized I would need a cut and knife,
End up with a piece missing rest of my life.

A second opinion tempered the views,
Came up with a happier news.

But still the unexpected knife still hangs,
Bringing fear in mighty pangs.

Wondering about the process,
Would the normal life progress.

Only GOD can provide a rest,
To the numerous questions that harass.

Colours of Affection - Holi !!

Colours of Affection – Holi !!

A dash of red,
A streak of blue,
Colours of all hue,
Flying in all direction.

Old and young,
All have fun,
Some shoot with water gun,
Others content with dry blush.

Interrupted by gujiya,
Topping up with some vada,
Maybe a samosa or two,
With some juice to push it through.

But play with care,
Holi fun should be fair,
No teasing no crying,
When ushering a spring of lively tinting.

Exams

Exams
Some say fear,
Some say oh! Dear,
But all accept,
Exams are here!!
A year’s knowledge is a sheet,
Which chapter to repeat,
No time to ponder,
Or look back and wonder.
How to quell the urge,
To read a comic tell,
How to coax the mind,
To revise the old find.
Where to search for old question,
Or answers that went out of reach.
Need to redo all the sums,
Read poems in various tongue,
Renew the historical past,
Precipitate the geographical overcast,
Summon the civil rights and duties.
Dig deep in literary quest,
For every line is a test,
Meant to waltz back after rest,
 So empty the worrisome nest,
Keep calm and All the Best !!

Sound

No sound no noise,
The streets are quiet,
The horns have gone discreet,
The brakes do not scream,
Peaceful is the world,
But alas! The eyes open,
To squeal and groan of the street.

The sky is noiseless,
The birds are clueless,
The aeroplane do not rumble
The crackers do not crumble,
Serene is the horizon,
But alas! The eyes open,
To the roar and thunder of the sky.

The neighbourhood is quite,
No building showing its might,
No stonecutter grinding,
No welding nor drilling,
No construction work pending,
But alas! The eyes open,
To bone chilling sounds of workmen troop.

Where to find time alone,
Even the forests are full of people in high tone,
The sky grumble and growl,
The streets creak and moan,
The house surrounds the machine din,
But alas! The eyes yearn, for a pleasing scene,
And the ears in turn, wait to hear the sound of nothing.

The senses are taunt,
There is nothing more that they want,
To search for a quiet place,
Where the world is not a loud race.

A Trip Forever

Pack my backpack, Get my sling bag,
I am off on a vacation, I need some relaxation,
Maybe I will visit further cities, Seek a few deities,

With a teenager for company, Together we will think up a symphony,
Bonding man to man, Bring the son closer to land,
Make a few new contacts, Acquaint the colleagues,

I will make new plans, As the days evolve and my thoughts fan,
But get me a place to stay, I'll be here for some more days,
I wish there was a unchartered road to find,

For my mind does not want to go back to daily grind,
Alas no trip last forever, But have gathered memories to savor.

Mother...

Where is my belt?
Where is my car,
Alas! Where did you keep it?
I had left it in its nitch fit.

Why do you poke me,
Stop irritating me,
I will finish my work at my pace,
It’s not your school days.

Go find some other words to write,
I don’t need your constant voice,
There are better places to pick a fight,
Methods have changed so don’t create noise.

What food is this on my plate,
I crave for tasty treats all day,
But this chow only slows the metabolic rate,
Your healthy food tastes like hay.

The teachers are biased,
Most don’t know to teach,
I learn more from the net and it does not tire,
Oh! So you quit your preach.

Ma, go away let me sleep,
Leave me alone not make me weep,
What is a public exam, its easy,
So much so, I think it’s a shame to cram.

20 December 2017

I will...

I pen down words everyday,
A prose or a poetry.
To get addicted to this way,
To let mind and heart find glee.

Will I succeed, will I fail,
Only future day will have a tale to tell.

Today its new,
Like fresh spring dew,

So with audacity I continue,
A few words some old some new,
Stoking the fire,
Everyday with a new desire.

Water you have gone too far

You came uninvited, Walked into my life unexpected, I used to relish your presence, Your warm embracing essence, But now its fear that envel...
