Floods

Floods

Boats ferry people in distress,
Real boats instead of paper press,
Cars and vans swimming in streets,
Television competing with washing machine n’ fridge,
Water inside home on the first floor,
People living on stranger’s door,
School books rotting in muck,
Clothes have a worse luck,
Power cuts in every corner,
Living beings look lost and foreign,
Food comes in packets and pouches,
Sickness overtakes every ouch,
Days pass water recedes,
Anger and helplessness resides,
Many start search for new dwellings,
But support from kind souls swelling,
Life finally starts afresh and renewed,
But do we act on the lessons we learn?
